In the Area
There is an IGA just over the Ocean Isle
Bridge. It's a nice, smaller supermarket. Shallotte (Shah-LOTE)
is a quick drive away, has a huge Wal-Mart SuperCenter (this
is good or bad, depending on how much you are willing to save
money on the above necessities); a small Belk's department
store, and all the stores you'll need. Lowe's Food in Shallotte
is the best grocery store with a execellent deli, bakery,
and wine selection. Captain Jacks sells the best fresh shrimp
and fish.
Sharky's is our family's favorite OIB
restaurant. You don't have to clean up, no matter how much
fun you've been having. Atmosphere is great, food even better.
It's on your right just before the start of the bridge. Las
Palmeros in Shallotte has good Mexican food. You can feed
a crowd for a small amount of money, atmosphere and service
are great. If you're looking for a fishing boat charter, ask
at either of the two gas stations on your right, heading toward
the bridge to the mainland.
There are two small surf shops on OIB,
and a larger "Waves" just over the bridge. This part of the
coast does have some moderate waves, so boogie boards are
good investments. Please warn your family about currents and
drift, especially as the tide is turning.
Ask a local to direct you to the small
farmers' market, left at the light heading away from Shallotte,
toward Sunset Beach. It's just a half a mile or less on your
right. If you proceed toward Sunset Beach, you'll find a great
seafood and shrimp store on your right called Captain Jack's.
Just ahead on your right, is Big Nell's Pit Stop, a great
breakfast dive. Their seafood is fresh from the local boats.
Wilmington is a beautiful old river town,
with a lively downtown river front. Antiques stores are abundant,
but expensive. Southport, a closer drive, has great antique
prices. It's a small, lovely old town. The Provision Company
serves excellent fresh seafood, prices are great. It's on
the docks at Southport. There's a nice Riverfront walk and
park for walking off the lunch at the Provision Company. We're
still finding all its historical markers.
We think you'll find the people in Brunswick
County to be unusually kind and helpful. They have been unfailingly
kind to us.
Keys
Keys are in the lockbox on pilor near
huge picnic table at end of carport. The code to open the

Directions
Take U.S. 17 South from Wilmington, follow
all signs for "Brunswick County Beaches." Following
them will entail lots of quick left turns just out of Wilmington,
to bear around the Battleship attractions and several under-construction
bridges.
Pass all the signs to Holden Beach, Shallotte
(several exits for Shallotte), and make a left on the road
to Ocean Isle Beach. There are several signs, "Ocean
Isle Beach--1 mile, left."
Go straight through the light at Sunset
Beach Rd, continuing straight to Ocean Isle Beach. Go over
the bridge. When you reach the "T" at the end of
the road, at the ocean, turn right. Isle Plaza is the 5th
or 6th St. on Right. (Between Duneside and Driftwood.) We
are a block and a half down on right, #32, turquoise trim.
Ann King is our neighbor at the end of the street. She or
Jim may greet you when you are coming or going.
Call us at 919-563-0773 or 919-612-6172
if you get lost. Have fun!
